It was August 10, 1999, and I had finally gotten the time to work up an issue of Split/Image for my mailing list. Since early 1998 I had been hardpressed for the time to spend on the fanzine. With my dad's death I had to take on the additional responsibilities of doing the income tax returns of my accounting clients which my dad had been doing all along. The increased workload and the care of all the cats, at home and feral cats on Carmen Lane, left little time to do much else.

It was the contributions of a comic story by Eric Stettmeier and various literay works by James F. Dinsmore, as well as the upcoming Star Wars release of Episode 1, The Phantom Menace, and all the associated hyperbole, which gave me both the encouragement and impetus to continue despite the desire to just let it all go! Doing these issues of first Card Connect and then Split/Image was as a seasoning within this otherwise rather mundane existence and the flavor of which I thoroughly enjoyed despite the costs of time and money that was consumed in the effort.

This issue #8 of Split/Image was sent out in late August into early September, 1999. However, by the time I had prepared the master copy my financial resources had collapsed and I only sent out this issue to a limited number of the readership.

It represented my continuing evolution towards an avante garde type of zine wherein not only were the topics of THE INDUSTRY (comic books-action figures-related collectibles, TV programs, and movies) discussed but an inclusion of literary works, be they poems, songs, or short stories, and unrelated but novel art, mostly of my own creation along with advertising art, were included to provide the readership with an unique reading experience. As had been the practice I included advertising which I ran across in my search for relevant material in the various media that caught my eye and that I thought would be of interest or of need. These advertisements were constructed by myself out of existing media advertisments and ran without knowledge of the organizations or persons for whom the ads were promoting and was done so without any cost to them as I considered them to be an element of the overall art of the zine.

Please note that all the information in this issue is dated, all prices noted in ads are no longer relevant and are probably quite different now. Addresses have changed. Some of the topics of the articles and of the ads are no longer in existence.

To add some current relevancy to the various pages I have placed RELEVANT LINKS at the bottom of the page, where applicable, to enhance your reading visit. These links are provided for your use and enjoyment as I have no connection to them and cannot assume responsibility on their use. I think they are all rather cool and will help enhance the reading.
